In the seventies they liked to keep things very simple with small concrete pathways linking houses to driveways and houses to washing lines but this quickly became out dated and looked too utilitarian with no style and we wanted a wow factor!
So the brief was to build something functional but interesting to look at and use. So I built these stairs and deck and the clients where very happy with it.
These steps had completely rotten away and had become dangerous to use so I rebuilt them using treated pine railway sleepers. They should last another decade or so at least. Also I added 12 volt garden lighting so they look good and are safe at night.
In Auckland, it can be hard to get your clothes dry with four seasons in one day so this set of stairs takes you to a sunny upper bank area where the washing has a chance to dry.
